Information for Candidates

Let’s Grow Kids Action Network is a non-partisan organization that endorses candidates who are committed to ensuring that all Vermont families have access to quality, affordable child care. In the 2023-2024 biennium, Vermont made historic progress by passing Act 76 — a $125 million annual investment that is stabilizing the child care sector and creating a more affordable Vermont for families with young children.

All candidates are encouraged to refer to our candidate child care brief and other materials linked below to gain a deeper understanding of Vermont’s Child Care Campaign and the child care crisis. We encourage candidates to talk to Vermonters about Act 76 and Vermont’s child care crisis. We have provided materials to assist with those conversations, including a ready-to-print palm card to share with Vermonters about Act 76. If you have any questions about these materials, please contact info@lgkan.org.

Let's Grow Kids Action Network endorses candidates with a demonstrated track record or a stated commitment to solving Vermont’s child care crisis. LGKAN strives to create an endorsement process that is open and non-partisan.

The first slate of 2024 endorsed candidates, announced on June 26, is made up of incumbents in the State Legislature who have demonstrated their commitment to solving the state’s child care crisis by voting to make Act 76 law in 2023.

After the primary election this summer, Let’s Grow Kids Action Network plans to endorse a second group for the general election who demonstrate their commitment to building an equitable and sustainable child care system through long-term public investment.

Candidates seeking endorsement for the general election will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  1. Response to a candidate questionnaire (more information coming soon)
  2. Results of candidate interview, as needed
  3. Level of child care inclusion in campaign platform/on campaign trail

Please note that other factors may be taken into consideration at the discretion of Let's Grow Kids Action Network staff or board to inform endorsement decisions. We will make two rounds of endorsements, the first exclusively for incumbents, followed by a second round after the primary election.
